Drive UP: Together Minigames — Bomb Tag & Sky Sumo

Official v0.1.2 rules for Bomb Tag and Sky Sumo on Neon Junction: hot-potato bombs, three defuse pads, and four waves of falling helipad tiles.

Where are the minigames?

Both minigames arrived with Neon Junction in update v0.1.2 (November 2, 2026 Steam news). Official copy describes a night city with neon lights and 80s synthwave style—a climb from the parking garage to a finish at 1000 meters, ending around a 1 km tall beacon tower.

Read route details and POIs on the Neon Junction map page and the v0.1.2 patch summary.

How does Bomb Tag work?

According to the official v0.1.2 patch notes (Bomb Tag, parking garage roof):

  • The bomb passes from car to car like a hot potato.
  • Get close to someone to pass it on.
  • When time runs out, the car holding the bomb blows up.
  • Solo: Drive over the three lit pads to defuse it.

That is the full official ruleset we have—no published round timer, scoreboard, or power-up list.

Our read: how to avoid blowing up

  • Keep spacing until you want the bomb—collisions are already part of Drive UP physics (co-op strategies).
  • Plan a line to the lit pads when alone; do not camp on the roof edge where a fall wastes defuse time.
  • Call the bomb in voice or chat—v0.1.2 improved chat kick/lobby messages, but Bomb Tag itself has no official callout system documented.

How does Sky Sumo work?

Official v0.1.2 wording (Sky Sumo, helipad):

  • The floor is made of tiles.
  • In four waves, tiles flash red and fall.
  • Try to stay standing.

There is no official statement on shrink speed, safe tile count, or whether cars can push each other off after tiles drop.

Our read: staying up on the helipad

  • Hold center early—outer tiles often vanish first in similar party-game patterns, but we have not verified Neon Junction’s exact pattern per wave.
  • Use handbrake-style feints sparingly—official driving text warns that greedy throttle steps the rear out; sudden spins near the edge send you off the helipad.
  • Watch the four waves as separate panic checks; reset mental map after each wave when new holes appear.

What does multiplayer chaos look like on narrow tracks?

Minigames are not the main climb, but the same solid car rules apply on tight courses. Official press kit 03 shows two SUVs colliding on a checkered track above the ocean:

Map attribution for this shot is unclear in the press kit—it illustrates vehicle contact, not a specific minigame arena.

Should I play minigames or keep climbing?

Our read:

If you want… Suggestion
Leaderboard rank Focus on normal or checkpoint climb tables—altitude, then time, then attempts (achievements & leaderboards).
Lobby warm-up Bomb Tag and Sky Sumo are short, social breaks on Neon Junction between full-height attempts.
Solo practice Bomb Tag’s three lit pads give a solo loop; Sky Sumo still works alone but is harder without rivals to bail you out—not official difficulty guidance.

Feedback on minigame feel belongs on official Discord, linked from Steam news.

FAQ

Which map has Bomb Tag and Sky Sumo?
Official v0.1.2 news places both minigames on Neon Junction—the new neon night city map with a 1000 m finish.
Can I play Bomb Tag alone?
Yes. The patch notes say solo players can drive over three lit pads to defuse the bomb when no one else is nearby to pass it to.
How many waves does Sky Sumo have?
According to the official v0.1.2 post, tiles flash red and fall in four waves.
Do minigames affect Steam leaderboards?
Patch notes describe leaderboard changes for climb altitude, time, and attempts on normal and checkpoint modes—they do not say minigame scores feed those tables. Treat minigames as side activities unless future news says otherwise.
